Dialogue with Mahalaxmi Municipality on Localising Legal Aid Act (GBV Elimination Fund)

CWAD in coordination with the Judicial Committee of Mahalaxmi Municipality organized a day program on Gender-Based Violence Elimination Fund on November 1st of 2021 (Kartik 15, 2078). During these meetings, Judicial Committee Members, Mediation Committee Member, Ward Members, Executive Members, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, representatives of administrative officials, Legal officer, Finance officer, Women, Children department officials and Paralegals of each municipality showed their active participation.

The objective of the program was to make the local level government aware of the GBV elimination fund. Highlight the importance and various inventions that can be supported with the help of this fund.  Prof. Dr Shashi Adhikary presented the paper on the Gender-Based Violence Elimination Fund where she explained how it can be utilized for the betterment of the victims/survivors to access these resources provided by the government of Nepal at the local level. Similarly, she shared about the roles and responsibilities that come with it for the utilization of the fund which as a result will directly help to access justice for the marginalized, deprived as well as disadvantaged people within the municipality. 

Deputy Mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality, Ms Nirmala Thapa expressed her gratitude towards CWAD for organising the program. She said the program will be of utmost significance to the stakeholders for the better utilization of the fund and provide much-needed support to the GBV victim at the local level.
