During this Quarter we were reviewing the Legal Aid Act, Civil Code and Criminal Code. Thus, CWAD and our working group network are joining hands and working together on the finalization of its “Teen Mahele” and Review Report. This will then be submitted to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for amendment from GESI Perspective.
We were fortunate to work together during this time of 16 Days Activism against Gender Based Violence on policy advocacy on Legal Aid Act, Civil Code and Criminal Code from GESI perspective on 4th December 2020 via zoom meeting.
The working group comprised of the representative of Ministry of Law Justice an Parliamentary Affairs, Supreme Court, Centre Child Justice Committee Secretary, National Law Commission, Supreme Bar Association, Nepal Bar Association, and CSO’s Maiti Nepal, FRESH International, Legal Aid and Consultancy Centre (LACC), Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD), Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA), Indigenous Women Legal Awareness Group (INWOLAG), Dalit Feminist Uplift Group (DAFUO) and few experts of this field. She then asked the facilitator Prof. Dr. Shashi Adhikary to carry forward the program.
The Working Group appreciated the initiation of CWAD to Review the Legal Aid Act, National Civil Code, and National Criminal Code in prime time. Due to limited time frame, we planned to discuss each reviewed document individually in different date and time with the parliamentarian towards finalization. Then a final meeting to be done individually after the incorporation of all the inputs and suggestions before submission to the Ministry of Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
