Advocate Shanti Risal Kaphle

Mrs. Shanti Risal Kaphle is a founding Board Member and the Executive Director of FRESH International (Forum for the Realization of Equality, Social Justice, and Human Rights), a not-for-profit company established in 2019. She has extensive and exhaustive professional experience working as a Child Protection Specialist and Human Rights Expert in East and South Africa, Middle East, and East Europe.

In her career with the United Nations (UNICEF, UNDP, and UNESCO) Shanti has over 20 years of experience working for women and children in emergency and low- and middle-income countries like Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, and South Sudan, Bosnia- Herzegovina, and South Africa. She has extensively worked with the government and Civil Society organizations on legislative review, policy development, and drafting legislation; justice for children; rule of law; child rights; child protection; gender equality, and social inclusion. Shanti also has expertise on designing programmes, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.  Shanti is a seasoned trainer and has led number of training sessions and workshops on child rights, child protection, and women and human rights. She also has solid experience on designing and developing training manuals. 

Shanti has conducted and led several research on children and women’s issues, human rights, and legal issues. Shanti is a tremendous team worker and enjoys working with diverse groups of people.

She holds two master’s degrees, an LLM on Human Rights Law from the University of Notre Dame, USA, and a master’s degree on Juvenile Justice from the University of Delhi, India. Before her career in the UN, she spent time in Nepal as a Lecturer of Law, an Advocate, and a Human Rights Activist.

Shanti is an aspiring painter; she also loves, travelling, listening to music, and creating quirky pieces of pottery.
