Senior Advocate Ms. Suneeta Regmi Pokhrel is a Senior Advocate who has been practicing law in Nepal for over 30 years. Her areas of interest include gender justice and legal literacy, and she has helped numerous women receive justice through the court system. She has also led leadership, capacity building, gender and legal literacy training for grassroots women as well as women in politics all over Nepal.
As an expert mediator, she has successfully handled court referred mediation as well as pre-court mediation in a wide variety of cases, championing the interests of the most vulnerable. She is a member of Mediation Council’s Committee, involved to improve mediation policies and practices in the country. As a member of the Professional Development Committee of the Nepal Bar Council, she is also developing learning modules and providing training to lawyers to help increase their competence and professionalization.
Similarly, Ms. Regmi has been continuosely involved in election observation process at national and sub-national levels since 1990. She has conducted awareness raising training to educate voters and local leaders on democratic and election process. Ms. Regmi also has provided her guidance and expertise in election observation as the team leder at Province two during the second election of Consituent Assembly in 2012. She has also been actively participated and contributed to research on women participation.
As an election observation she conducted more than 100 training programs for elected local body’s officials, elected women office bearers, potential women candidates, community civil society women office bearers, school students, women teachers, women police, for Nepal Bar Association, Legal Aid Project, Nepal Law Society, Rural Development Foundation/Nepal, Police Training Academy, Women Development office, Lalitpur, Ministry of Women, Children & Social Welfare and IIDS in cooperation with Norwegian Bar Association/ NDI/ F. Neumann Foundation/ SDC/ USIS, FPA, UNDP and DANIDA- DASU. (The program covered about 65 districts all over Nepal) Trainer in Land system and settlement of Land Disputes for Land Surveyors of various courts organized by Rule of Law project, UNDP and School of Geometrics in June 2006.
