CWAD’s successfully conducted a Working Group Meeting for Policy Advocacy regarding Economic Justice of Women and Marginalized Group. Consultants Advocate Indu Tuladhar and Advocate Sabin Shrestha presented their study on Review Report under the Constitution of Nepal, Labor Act and labour-related acts and policies. Consultant Advocate Indu Tuladhar presented on the constitutional provisions concerning socio-economic justice of marginalized women.
Highlighting the importance of securing socio-economic justice for women working in formal and informal, she recommended making the legislation and policies consistent with the constitutional provision of Nepal. Consultant Advocate Sabin Shrestha, then, listed 7 legislations and their specific provisions that are contradictory to the constitutional guarantees of economic justice. Such as the Labour Act, Foreign Employment Act and Directive Policies of the government. He also recommended revising the contradictory provisions considering the spirit of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions ratified by Nepal. He also suggested that Nepal ratify other various ILO conventions concerning the economic rights protection of female workers. Following the presentation, the working group members and experts namely Binta Pandey, Bina Pradhan, Manju Gurung, Kunda Sharma and Bijaya Rai Shrestha provided their respective valuable feedback and opinions on the presentation to be incorporated in the study.
