Meeting and Dialogue with Judicial Committee on Women’s and Marginalized Communities’ Access to Justice in Bhaktapur

CWAD, in coordination with Suryabinayak Municipality and with financial support from AEIN – Aide à l’Enfance de l’Inde et du Népal, organized a Meeting and Dialogue with Judicial Committee on Women’s and Marginalized Communities’ Access to Justice on 21 August 2026 at Bhaktapur Guest House, Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur.

The program was attended by representatives of Suryabinayak Municipality, including the Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Yubraj Acharya, Coordinator of the Social Development Committee and Mr. Rabindra Sapkota, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 6 Mr. Ishwor Khadka, members of the Executive Committee, Judicial Committee members, Ward Members, heads and staff of different municipal sections.

The first session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Shashi Adhikary, on “International Human Rights Instruments: CEDAW, Role of Judicial Committee and Access to Justice for Marginalized Women and Girls.”The session highlighted key provisions of CEDAW and international human rights instruments, the role of Judicial Committees, and the importance of ensuring access to justice for marginalized women and girls.

The second session was facilitated by Dr. Anita Shrestha on “Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), Human Rights, Legal Identity and GEDSI Perspectives.” The session focused on the importance of civil registration, legal identity, human rights, and the GEDSI perspective in ensuring equitable access to rights and services.

The program provided an opportunity for participants to share experiences and engage in discussions on the challenges faced by women and marginalized communities in accessing justice, the role of Judicial Committees, the importance of legal identity and civil registration, and strengthening coordination among local governments and relevant stakeholders.

The dialogue served as an important platform for strengthening collaboration and promoting more inclusive, accessible, and responsive justice mechanisms for women and marginalized communities.
