Meeting and Dialogue with Judicial Committee on Women’s and Marginalized Communities’ Access to Justice in Kailali

The program was graced by the Deputy Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City as the Chief Guest, with the Deputy Mayors of Godawari Municipality and Shuklaphata Municipality as Guests of Honour. The dialogue brought together Judicial Committee Members, Ward Chairpersons and Members, department heads, municipal and ward-level staff, and journalists from the participating local governments.

The first session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Shashi Adhikary on “International Human Rights Instruments: CEDAW, Role of Judicial Committees, and Access to Justice for Marginalized Women and Girls.” The session highlighted the relevance of CEDAW and international human rights instruments, the role and responsibilities of Judicial Committees, and the importance of strengthening access to justice for marginalized women and girls.

The second session, facilitated by Dr. Anita Shrestha, focused on “Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), Human Rights, Legal Identity, and GEDSI Perspectives.” The session explored the importance of civil registration and legal identity as fundamental rights and emphasized the need for inclusive, accessible, and GEDSI-responsive public services.

The dialogue provided a valuable platform for *shared learning, meaningful discussion, and reflection among local government stakeholders , strengthening understanding of institutional responsibilities and identifying opportunities to improve access to justice and responsive services for women and marginalized communities.
