CWAD, with financial support from AEIN – Aide à l’Enfance de l’Inde et du Népal, organized a One-Day Capacity Enhancement Orientation Program for members of the Women Empowered Entrepreneurs Organization (WEEO), Bhaktapur, at Bhaktapur Guest House, Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur.
The orientation focused on strengthening women’s knowledge and confidence on civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS), legal identity, legal rights, and access to economic rights, enabling participants to better understand, claim, and advocate for their rights.
The first session on “Importance of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), Legal Identity and Access to Rights” was facilitated by Dr. Anita Shrestha. The session highlighted that civil registration is not only a process of officially recording important life events such as birth, death, marriage, divorce, and migration, but also an important foundation for legal identity, access to public services, protection of rights, and inclusive development. Participants also discussed the importance of legal identity and citizenship in accessing education, health services, social security, and other opportunities, as well as the role of women’s groups in raising awareness and supporting marginalized communities to access registration services.
The second session on “Legal Rights and Access to Economic Rights” was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Shashi Adhikary. The session focused on women’s fundamental legal and economic rights, including rights related to employment, occupation, business and entrepreneurship, equal remuneration, property, education, social security, and participation in public institutions. The session also highlighted specific legal provisions supporting women’s economic empowerment, including access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities and provisions related to property and economic rights.
